I have long been fascinated by the study of the mind and consciousness. It is a lifelong journey to begin to understand not only the thoughts within our minds, but also to contemplate how our minds actually work. In comparison to that complex series of questions and mysteries, comprehension and understanding of the topic of consciousness seems even larger and more confusing. Consciousness is a continuously unfolding universe of knowledge and experience that is magical and simultaneously tangible and elusive.

We are all familiar with controversy. Whether controversial events are happening within our own lives or in our larger society, controversy can result in a lot of lively water cooler talk, inspire people to take action, and also be a catalyst for serious change. Controversy can be painful, it can be enlightening, it can be uncomfortable. Some of our best advancements have come as a result of controversy. Who doesn’t remember how controversial it was at one time to believe that our universe did not revolve around the Earth?

I’ve done a lot of talking about disease lately it seems. When I sit and think about all of the great people I talk with every week, there is no doubt that I do discuss disease a lot. My perspective though is that really I have a job about hope and empowerment.

Welcome to 2010! Other than Christmas, for me, the beginning of the year is the most exciting time of the year. It is the time of year when we are the most excited about the possibilities that await us, a time to begin again. I personally like to think we get wiser and more compassionate with each year that passes, that as we cross the threshold from one year to the next, anything is possible, and that we can take what we learned in the previous year with us to create an exciting new future of possibilities.

I love, love, love this time of year! Welcome to the October issue of CoSozo Living and I hope that the fall brings you as much joy and happiness that your body can hold! To me, each season holds its own unique magic and wonder, and as the seasons change I am reminded just how incredible our world actually is. That realization is in no small part influenced by the beauty of nature in all its forms so it’s a perfect time to have an issue that features an article about the healing powers of nature.

There couldn’t be a more perfect time to feature an issue on nutrition than the beginning of our wonderful summer months. The farms are full of fresh fruits and vegetables. People are spending more time in the great outdoors grilling and enjoying their families. I do so love the summer time!

Fitness and wellness go hand in hand, and this month we have a lot of great writers who have written articles that can help you with almost any area of your fitness or wellness goals.  As with almost any aspect of wellness, even if you aren’t yet meeting your own personal goals, it all starts with just a decision, a choice to do something differently.  The articles in this issue of CoSozo Living can meet you almost anywhere you are and help you to reach the commitment to take another step to better your life.

While it is true that our current economy, particularly in Michigan, has made life difficult for many, not only in the U.S. but also abroad, it is refreshing to see so many individuals who are actively trying to make a difference.

Christine's Corner Sunday, August 1, 2010

Welcome to August and an issue that focuses on parenting and family. There are so many things to be grateful for in our lives, not the least of which is family. From our families we often receive our greatest joys, our fondest memories, and even our toughest lessons.

Christine's Corner Sunday, March 1, 2009

By now we are all anxiously awaiting the arrival of spring, with all of its wondrous and magical qualities. In March, we can often begin to see the signs that better weather is on its way. We begin to feel restless inside our homes and dream of the days not far away when we can spend more time outside. It’s a time of burgeoning hope and renewal, longer days and more activity.

I am so excited about this issue of CoSozo Living! This month marks our first year anniversary for CoSozo Living, and this past year has been tremendously rewarding, exciting, and ultimately so meaningful to be able to hear from so many of you that we have helped you in some way.

What a great time of year to have an issue that highlights spirituality and the physical and emotional benefits that can be realized through a variety of spiritual practices. Kate Durda and Stephanie Tighe have provided an excellent article this month that introduces the practice of shamanism. There was so much fascinating information that we decided to have a two part article, the first part of which is featured this month and the concluding part in our January 2010 issue. We think you’ll love learning more about this tremendously ancient, yet current practice.

Christine's Corner Tuesday, September 1, 2009

When we originally planned this issue of CoSozo Living, we had visions of being able to really highlight not only at a national level, but also at a state level, just where we stand with our health and wellness legislation. As we all know, we aren’t quite as far along as we had initially hoped we would be with our legislation this year.

Welcome to April, one of my favorite months of the year! We have lots of great articles for you this month, as well as some very cool and much anticipated new features, both to our print publications as well as to our online community.

This month our feature article is from Dr. Carol Ann Fischer from Livonia. She has written a great article on the importance of hydration and the role that water plays in our health. Thank you Dr. Fischer!

It’s hard to believe that summer is already over and we are at the beginning of our beautiful fall months. What a perfect time of year to talk about integration.

Integration can mean many things to us throughout our lives. How can I best integrate this new child into my marriage? How can I better integrate my own personal values with the ways in which I spend my money? How can I better integrate my focus on holistic practices and preventative care with my choice of some conventional health care methods? How can my children integrate well at their new school?

Recently, on the MIE Radio Network, I found myself having a conversation with Corin Johnston about what it means to be a “succulent wild woman” and whether we view ourselves as one. For anyone who doesn’t know, there are many celebrations for women during the month of March, among them, International Women’s Day, which was the catalyst for us to examine the topic.

Christine's Corner, Friday, July 1, 2011

Welcome to Summer! It is a time of family gatherings, celebrations, time outdoors, and if we’re lucky, vacation. For me, like many of you, nothing makes our experiences more special than enjoying them with family. Whether your defined family is through genetics and blood, selected by your heart and soul over time or both, family is perhaps the single most influential factor in our lives.

Christine's Corner, March 1, 2011

Our magazine this month focuses on awareness. Most of us spend the vast majority of our lives becoming more aware and learning how to use those new pieces of understanding to broaden our own sense of responsibility and compassion for ourselves and for others. It is a life-long process of becoming aware of new information, investigating our own beliefs, and hopefully evolving as we move throughout our lives.

Christine's Corner, Monday, August 1, 2011

Our theme this month is The Body Miraculous. Whether you are of the belief that the body and its associated state of health or disease is a result of strictly biological processes or whether you believe in the body-mind-spirit approach, it is an understatement to call the body miraculous. Through its own innate, magical processes, the body sweats, circulates blood, digests, eliminates toxins, and so much more that we take for granted on a daily basis.

Inspiration. When you research the etymology of the word you find “c.1300, ‘immediate influence of God or a god,” according to the Online Etymology Dictionary. The Late Latin word “inspiratio” means to breathe into. More recently many have come to view the word as a derivative of “in-spirit” meaning to be connected directly with your highest most divine self or spirit.

It seems lately that I am always saying, “I love this time of year!” It is no secret that I find particular fascination with the period of time from Halloween through January.

First we get to be ridiculous and get all dressed up as characters, then we hop right into a month focused on gratitude, followed by the miracles and magic of the holidays (which for me is Christmas), and then... January!

Christine's Corner, Saturday, October 1, 2011

When we laid out the 2011 editorial calendar and identified October’s theme as “Our World,” I hoped that we would be able to have an article that spoke to different healing modalities elsewhere in the world. I had no idea that I would be in a unique position to be the one contributing the information.

Christine's Corner, Sunday, January 1, 2012

Welcome to the New Year and I hope that your holidays have filled your life with joy and grace. It’s a wonderful time of the year, as the New Year ushers in, to begin to identify the patterns in our lives that serve us well, as well as to determine what we choose to do about those that don’t.

Christine's Corner, Sunday, May 1, 2011

Many of us think about mental health when we’re having one of those days that stresses us out. We also tend to think about mental health when we’re feeling depressed or blue. But many in our society view people with serious mental health issues as people who are hard to understand, mysterious, and perhaps even scary.

Christine's Corner, Thursday, December 1, 2011

Ahhh, the magic of the holidays when gratitude abounds and grace shines its beautiful light in our lives! I am fervent in my belief that miracles happen on a daily basis and I believe just as strongly that the more you are able to recognize the blessings in your life and express gratitude for them, that even more wonderful things occur.
