What a great time of year to have an issue that highlights spirituality and the physical and emotional benefits that can be realized through a variety of spiritual practices. Kate Durda and Stephanie Tighe have provided an excellent article this month that introduces the practice of shamanism. There was so much fascinating information that we decided to have a two part article, the first part of which is featured this month and the concluding part in our January 2010 issue. We think you’ll love learning more about this tremendously ancient, yet current practice.

We have several new columnists this month. Peggy Caputo has provided us with an excellent article that will help anyone struggling with the practice of meditation. Also new to CoSozo is Becky Sundeen, who breaks down the basics of reflexology - particularly helpful during the holiday season when undoubtedly our feet need a break. For anyone who feels that moving isn’t quite as easy as it was when you were younger, Beverly Yee has provided an introduction to Feldenkrais, a body movement modality. And Amanda Howell has provided an article on the practice of waterbirth, which for some expectant mothers is a more comfortable, spiritual way of birthing.

We also are so pleased to welcome back Annette Barton and Dr. John Wycoff this month. Annette really provides some great details regarding the practice of EMDR, particularly helpful to those with traumatic stress. And Dr. Wycoff makes hypothyroidism, the symptoms and the treatments much easier to understand. It’s very shocking how many actually have this disease. We are so grateful to all of you, thank you for such wonderful articles!

As you continue your holiday season this December, we hope that you find some peace and quiet in the midst of all the busyness. Whether you find those spaces in the midst of moments just after shopping or during a much needed meditation session, we know those quiet times are as important as time with family and loved ones.

We also want to send a special message to any of you who are grieving the loss of a loved one this year or are experiencing the challenges of a health crisis in your own life or family. We know this time of year can be especially reflective and often tender in those circumstances. We send to you our best healing wishes for a loving and gentle holiday season.

For everyone, may your holiday be joyous, and we look forward to an expansive year of renewal in 2010! Happy Holidays!
